Secure mobility infrastructure for organizations is going to become one of the major norms in the days to come and its impact can be felt already in the emerging market. Mobility has dramatically changed the work environment and has made the workflow seamless by overhauling the business processes. The added advantage of fulfilling the requirement of employees to work anytime and anywhere will enhance an organization’s performance and transform business. Majority of the organizations are using mobile applications to multiply their business opportunities, however few are demanding to process their applications for faster approval of the financial expenses and decision making. Focusing on the end results, a shift in preference can be seen from following the traditional CAPEX (Capital Expenditure) model to applying the OPEX (Operational Expenditure) model to support computing of an organization on the cloud.

The Move towards the OPEX Model

Most of the multinational companies in India are already moving along the OPEX business model, since it can reduce the dependency to have organization’s own trained IT staff. With the technology upgrades happening at a short notice; to retain the technology and train the staff could be a challenging task. So Cloud is the future. At the same time, virtualization is also supposed to grow in the days to come, with many organizations expecting to have complete control with their access rather than having it on cloud based computing.

With the explosion of data, Business Intelligence (BI) looks promising. However, the best use of BI to the industry is not been acknowledged by current existing solutions. Every small and medium scale enterprise (SME) has a need of proper data analysis and good BI tool that can provide the best solutions with the built-in features which can be effectively mapped to their data structures. Decision making with the help of analysis always acts as a good tool for management team to support their decision based on their business needs.

Easing Security through Local Remedies

Prioritizing different projects and delivering them on time is always considered to be a major challenge for any CIO. In order to do so, they encourage their team to grow and enhance their skills. The present young generation teams play vital roles, as most of the young and energetic teams have a passion to complete the project as per time line. Conversion of legacy application to run on new operating system is also one of the challenges being faced by organizations, since one cannot scrap the application which is running for a long time. There is a need to look up to latest technology to make it run based on current requirements. This really keeps Information Technology up and running for future, which is the responsibility of a CIO. High expectations and controlled IT budget for the business, data security and consolidation of information at one place could be the biggest concerns for CIO.  Owing to these concerns, IT should concentrate more on process computerization to enhance business decision for better and fast recovery of investment made on IT infrastructure.

Overcoming Data Security Hurdles

Another thing which bothers the CIOs is data security, which can be controlled but cannot be a 100 percent fool proof system. End point security, firewall and security policy, security audits, prevention of data leakage could be local remedial feature but it would be a concern in the future. The information lies at various platforms in an organization that needs to be consolidated for data redundancy and speedy Management Information System (MIS). Proper Consumer Relationship Management (CRM) for sales and service, integrated Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) needs to be implemented all across companies and it really needs a support from top management to ensure proper implementation. The organizations face a hard time to get timely and accurate information from all of the management team as per specified format for better decision making and control on business.

CIO must choose the technology with a great vision with the organization’s need; by keeping the future requirements in mind. Every alternative year the business needs change but cost is the barrier in the change of technology, yet CIO must choose a technology environment which is scalable and for which technocrats are easily available.
